LFW: to the streets

Fashion week - the opportune time for people to flex their major sartorial guns. PEW PEW. So I headed down to Somerset House, man and camera in hand, and we snapped away at the fashionistas, stylistas and every other istas there are out there. Here are a few of our results and more to come later.

We headed down to Somerset House on Day Two of London Fashion Week to snap some shots of people in their fashion week getups. It’s amazing how people really put their balls out there in the name of fashion - as in shoulder/leg/everything-baring outfits when it’s 5 degrees out. I on the other hand have no such balls. Like Shini, we also noticed that the flag on top of Somerset House is black and white - freaky deaky.

The last two weeks of being back in London has been a collective blur of gooey chocolate chip cookies, low key but deceptively strong cocktails, too-cold walks in the park, exciting work projects and a new place to yum cha. I’ve mostly spent my days plotting my revenge against the cold because DAMMIT I WANT TO WEAR SHORTS.

Are there any chinese/japanese/korean restaurants, in london, which u'd highly recommend?

Food markets are easily my favorite thing about London. We decided to deviate from Borough Market and try Partridges Food Market in Chelsea - a watered down version of the former.

The hot food options were disappointingly few but they did offer the freshest must-have-now oysters, 6 for ₤5. WAH! That’s like less than HKD13 for one? STEAL! Splashed with vinegar, lemon juice and tobasco, these bad boys deserved two rounds. Worth going back for the oysters and hopeful sightings of cutie love at first sight puppies!

Last week I tagged along with SUPERWOWOMG as part of her entourage to attend Lane Crawford’s Spring 2012 press preview with Taylor Tomasi Hill.

Being the eager beavers we are, SUPERWOWOMG and I preemptively came up with a list of questions in hopes that we’d get to actually sit down with TTH and low and behold…WE DID!!!! So, along with Carmen (How I met Your Style) and Tania (Tlikebubbletea), we talked to the super cute TTH about hot sauce, broken heels, and how Hong Kong is the bomb diggity…

Us Bloggers: Is there anything special that you collect?

Taylor Tomasi Hill: Hmm….besides shoes because what girl doesn’t collect shoes [lols]…I collect Glass bottles. I like to find them at flea markets in upstate New York and also through estate sales.

UB: Sounds like an interesting collection, why glass bottles?

TTH: I moved from a 500 sq. foot apartment into a 2000 something sq. foot with my husband so I just thought I had more room to collect and display them. Right now they’re arranged on our dining table and shelves.

UB: Sounds cute! What item in your closet would you run back for in a fire?

TTH: In my closet? Hmm…everything in there can be so materialistic. Sometimes I think we could all do without fashion…so if I could I would have to say my photos. Those are irreplaceable.

UB: Well said and so true. What is the most unusual souvenir that you’ve ever gotten on holiday?

TTH: Wow these questions are getting harder and harder, I wish you gave them to me before hand! [Lols] I’d have to say Balezian hot sauce. It’s so amazing that my husband and I have them shipped to us in crates! You have to try it.

UB: OMG! That’s so funny, it must be super yum. Has there been anything surprising about Hong Kong for you?

TTH: Yes of course! It’s kind of like California and New York in one. You guys have the best of both worlds. When I look outside my hotel I see what looks like or what I think are palm trees, then you see the mountains and it’s like I could just go for a hike right now! It’s been amazing so far I can’t wait to come back and see more of it.

UB: You should definitely come back not for work, it’s an amazing city! What was your first pair of heels?

TTH: This one’s easy. It was a pair of strappy sandals from Kors by Michael Kors. I got them when I was interning at W magazine in 2002, which I had resoled like 100 times. They were great cause I could run around the city in them.

UB: Do you still have them?

TTH: You know I get asked that a lot but at the time I didn’t really think people would be asking me to show them this broken pair of very well used heels!

UB: [Lols] That’s true. Well I think that’s it for now. Thanks so much for chatting with us!

TTH: It was so fun! You guys are all so cute!

I’ve pretty much been wearing that double arrow ring everyday because it’s hard to find rings that fit my oh-so-dainty fingers. Visit my sister’s jewelry line at Moratorium Studios for more dead cool and dangerous looking stuff.

you have the most amazing skin, would you mind sharing your cleaning and make-up routine?

Oh? Danka! But it’s probably heaps less amazing in person.

In terms of cleaning, I wash my face at night with REN Rosa Centifolia Cleansing Gel followed by REN Vita-Mineral Day Cream (winter) or Laneige’s Water Bank Gel Cream (summer) because HK is so shoot-me-in-the-face humid that any other moisturizer is too heavy. In the morning I don’t use any cleanser, just cold water!

My daily make-up routine consists of eye brow powder (MAC), mascara (Maybelline’s Magnum Super Film), blush (Bobbi Brown), and a highlighter (Guerlain). If I do wear eyeliner I use Guerlain’s liquid eyeliner in brown.

I hope that helps! I don’t tend to use make up remover because I strategically choose make up that can come off easily with water and cleanser. I say strategically but it’s really just cause I’m lazeh. My main advice is that if you find something that works, stick with it FOREVER.

Whatever Whenever

STAYCATION!!! What a silly word. For Beeb’s birthday I decided to surprise him with a room at the W because, well, who wouldn’t love a room at the W! They awesomely upgraded us to a full ocean view, and the guy at the concierge even remembered my name (before I had a chance to tell him) from when I dropped my bag off two days ago. Hardcore training, crazy memory or scary stalker?

A day spent being lazy, watching movies and ordering room service is a day well spent. Despite the Living Room over charging us for 2 more beers than we ordered, W’s finish-your-sentence service, UGHHHH-MAZING beds and abundance of baby size Bliss amenities are worth going back for.

Last night nanz and I shimmied down to The Space to celebrate the launch of Christian Louboutin’s book, appropriately named Christian Louboutin - 20 years. After waiting a short half hour, the man himself arrived and flipped through the giant projection-flippable-fancy-tech version of his book, then disappeared into what I can only imagine as an endless night of autographing.

In all honesty, this may be the first time my camera has disappointed me and I didn’t manage to capture what I wanted to, namely the zomg yummy catering and crazy shoes of the night.

i was a follower of your previous blog, and i'm so glad I found ya on tumblr! Your photos are beautiful :) hope you have an awesome day!
